The Immigration and Asylum Appeals Board harshly criticized the Directorate of Immigration on their decision to deport an asylum seeker last October, RÚV reports. The board ruled to overturn the Directorate’s deportation order. It stated, furthermore, that the reasoning of the Directorate of Immigration cannot be understood as anything other than “intended not to provide an adequate assessment from the perspective the agency is required to take in regard to special cases.”

The Appeals Board criticizes the procedure of the Directorate of Immigration, stating it is clear there are “systemic deficiencies in the handling of cases” at the institution.
