A recent poll shows the Social Democratic Alliance has the most support in Reykjavík in the upcoming municipal elections, RÚV reports. The data comes from a survey carried out by the University of Iceland Social Science Research Institute for Morgunblaðið.

According to the survey, the Social Democratic Alliance can expect to receive eight seats, Left-Green Movement three, and the Pirate Party two. This would allow the parties to hold a majority of 13 seats out of 23, and Dagur B. Eggertsson of the Social Democratic Alliance to remain in his post as mayor.

Just over 27 percent of voters stated they would vote for the Independence Party, which would equal seven seats. The Reform Party would receive two seats and the Centre Party one. Only three percent of survey respondents supported the Progressive Party, not enough to earn a seat on the city council. Bright Future currently holds seats, but is not running in Reykjavík for the coming term.

Party following is divided strongly by neighbourhood. The Independence Party has more support in the suburbs, while residents of the city centre, Vesturbær and Laugardalur prefer the Social Democratic Alliance.

The survey was conducted 21-27 March and received responses from 1,792 individuals aged 18 to 90. Municipal elections take place country-wide in Iceland on 26 May.
